This is a tough choice for emerging leaders. They see the world as “black and white” and thus feel the stress of picking one or the other.<\/p>\n

Consider this:<\/p>\n

  • In the early part of your career, you may choose to “blend in.” after all, you have your hands full with learning the ropes and adjusting to the workplace.<\/li>\n
  • When you are in the advanced stages of your career, you think about leaving a legacy, and yearn “to make a difference.” In fact, you cannot leave a legacy unless you “blend out.”<\/li>\n

    Thus, as you advance in your career, you have to move from “blending in” to “blending out.” if you blend out too early, you will take a higher than normal risk. <\/p>\n

    There is nothing wrong with “blending out” early and aggressively. Just be mindful that you are doing one or the other.<\/p>\n
