#2. Why are we focusing on ‘Strategy Execution’?

Send to Kindle

Just to make it clear, the focus here is on executing business strategy.

Many bookshave been written on ‘Strategy Execution’.  Yes, this is not a very scientific way to assess the term’s popularity because some of the search results don’t seem to have anything to do with ‘Strategy Execution’.  A Google search will return more than 3 million results for this term, again unscientific, but indicates that the term is popular.

The proposal here is that the definition, process and taxonomy is understood by experienced practitioners, but its essence has not been captured and documented in a way to effectively build competencies to execute strategy.  Depending on trial and error and natural evolution of wisdom in practitioners is resulting in wasted effort and inefficiencies.  Most of the books document this waste and inefficiency to make the case for reading them!

A follow up proposal is that anyone who takes a keen interest will eventually master the art and science of strategy execution but what about the rest of the workforce that is not interested in the ‘how’ and ‘what’ of strategy execution, but needs to increase its effectiveness and productivity in executing business strategy?  Learning costs time and money, and to remain competitive, organizations need to rapidly ramp up their workforce to acquire the competencies for executing business strategy.

The above proposals will be explained further in subsequent blogs and in white papers.
