#7 Today versus Tomorrow

Send to Kindle

“Being in the moment” will maximize your pleasure and minimize your pain. Or will it?

“Being in the moment does not mean “living like there is no tomorrow.” Take time to plan, and mitigate risks. Have contingency plans. Be mindful, not reckless.

Finding the balance is a lot like calibrating a musical instrument. It may take time, patience, and skill. But it is worth it. If you want instant gratification or don’t make the effort to tune your instrument, you’ll get bad music.

If your organization does not reward thoughtful action, don’t fight it. Adopt behaviors that signal your ability to adapt to the urgency demanded by your organization, be creative in finding time and resources to plan for tomorrow.
