#10 How to learn

Assuming you have recognized the importance of “learning,” there are several options available to you.

  • Increase your awareness by reading books, articles, blogs, watching videos, and presentations.
  • Learn more concepts or skills by attending a training. In training sessions, the value comes not as much from the content, but from getting answers to questions and interacting with fellow participants.
  • Use a mentor to talk things over and to get suggestions.
  • Personalize and reinforce learning via coaching and feedback.
  • There is no substitute to getting out there and practicing. Sure, you’ll make a few mistakes, be careful, take the level of risk you can afford.

Successful companies have multiple “routes to market” or ways to reach their customers. Learn from this by increasing the number of “routes” by which knowledge, experience, and insight can get to you.

Be “ready to receive” when it does get to you. Then act. That is when real learning happens, when your behavior changes.
